Special Tours and Events
Each year, the Historical Society offers a wide variety of one-time-only tours and events. These tours and events are usually large in scale and require a large contingency of volunteer support.
Historic Barn Dinners: Each summer the Historical Society presents local farm-to-table dinners and entertainment in local historic barns to raise awareness about these important historic and vanishing resources. Volunteers are needed for logistical support, including location manage-ment, ticket sales, membership and merchandise sales, dinner service support, and barn docenting.
Spring and Fall Tours: Twice each year in the spring and fall, the Historical Society offers one-time-only tours in different areas of Minnehaha County. These tours, both walking & bus tours, showcase the architecture and cultural landscapes of the region. Volunteer roles include research, docenting, check-in, and itinerary logistics.
Holiday Movie: Early each December, the Historical Society presents a holiday-themed film in partnership with the historic State Theatre in Downtown Sioux Falls. This family-friendly event includes volunteers in usher, line management, ticket sales, membership and merchandise sales, backstage support, and logistics roles.
History Talks: Throughout the year, the Historical Society may host a limited number of lectures, symposiums, panel discussions, and similar public programs focusing on specific education and preservation issues. Volunteers are often engaged in these events in docent, check-in, and logistics roles.
